WHERESMYMEDIA TECHNOLOGY BEHIND SYNCRO’S NEW DIRECTION

March 11th, 2010

Syncro Services is celebrating more than fifty years of continuous, profitable operations in 2010. Due to workflow efficiencies introduced by sister company WheresMyMedia, Syncro has successfully transformed itself from a general dub house to a multimedia post production powerhouse.

By using WheresMyMedia’s digital asset management system as its base technological infrastructure, Syncro updated its portfolio to include multimedia services. This modern set of solutions designed for today’s digital landscape has enabled Syncro to successfully expand beyond its traditional client base.

For decades, Syncro has catered to ad agencies and heavy local television advertisers by providing traditional video duplication and distribution services. Embracing its loyal customer base of commercial advertisers, Syncro was determined to evolve when its clients’ needs started to change. Due to the gradual migration of ad dollars from traditional television to more accountable, digital platforms, typical dubbing orders were eventually overshadowed by complex format conversions and multi-platform distribution.

Faced with changing client needs in a volatile economy Syncro transformed itself to meet these challenges. To upgrade its capabilities and maximize efficiency, Syncro implemented the WheresMyMedia digital asset management system, with automated transcoding integration as its base infrastructure. This cutting-edge system streamlined every major Syncro operation into one seamless package. From the same system interface, entire workflows, that were once deemed labor-intensive, were compartmentalized, even combined, while several steps had been eliminated altogether.

From real-time ingest, with simultaneous multi-format transcoding, to on-demand accurate format conversions, the time once spent encoding and transcoding was cut down to a fraction. Even captioning, digital delivery, and web video-hosting were simplified functions integrated into the same WheresMyMedia application.

Equipped with its updated service portfolio, Syncro leveraged new revenue opportunities stemming from key WheresMyMedia system functionality. The large file uploader, which accommodates assets larger than a terabyte, opened doors to serving long-format clients. These clients, whose distribution efforts once stopped with DVDs, could use WheresMyMedia to transcode and distribute content to platforms like Hulu, iTunes, cell phones and VOD.

“It’s exciting to offer our clients services that they thought we couldn’t do,” said Dante Amato, National Sales Director of Syncro. “With this sophisticated technology, we can turn around projects better, faster, and cheaper than anyone else,” said Amato.

Rob Krizek, SVP Sales of Syncro, also notes how Syncro has changed. “We often find ourselves telling our customers how to achieve their goal rather than just fulfilling orders.

The WheresMyMedia team is encouraged by Syncro’s successful transformation. “Seeing such positive results is truly a compliment. We look forward to making our system even better”, said Greg Van Dell, Lead Web Architect and Partner of WheresMyMedia

As WheresMyMedia wraps up another cycle of development, Syncro looks forward to offering even more solutions for its clients. As William Steele, Partner and CEO of WheresMyMedia explains, “Whatever is it, the answer is ‘yes’, 99% of time we can figure out how to do anything.”
